Liberty Hall in the background and Ha'penny bride in the foreground, the artist describes it as his favorite ugly building. Liberty Hall has a long history, a soup kitchen was operated here in 1913 Dublin Lock-out, several newspapers were published here, a banner hung from it at commencement of the first world war, "We Serve Neither King nor Kaiser, but Ireland" - it is now head quarters of SIPTU, the largest trade union in Ireland. It was rebuild between 1961-65 .
The Ha'penny Bridge, built in 1816, was a tolled bridge charging a half penny toll (increased to 1 1/2 pence in latter years) from anyone crossing it, the toll was abolished in 1919.
